I hate this exercise because it’s one of the most difficult for a business to face. In two minutes or less, tell me why you are the business we are looking for? So, on today’s business, I thought we could try working out our business pitch together.

1. Start with who you help

Pick ONE main audience. The ones who you think are your most valuable customers.

“I help early-stage startups and local businesses…”

2. Define the problem

Now think about what they are struggling with and how you can help to solve that.

“I help early-stage startups and local businesses who feel their brand doesn’t match how good they really are.”

3. How do you do that?

Make it concrete and simple, even of you do more things, pick the one that really solves your customer problems.

“I help early-stage startups and local businesses who feel their brand doesn’t match how good they really are. I do that by helping them to build a cohesive and consistent brand that fits their strategy and all their touchpoints.”

4. What are the benefits?

What changes for them when you’ve done your thing?

“I help early-stage startups and local businesses who feel their brand doesn’t match how good they really are. I do that by helping them build a cohesive, consistent brand that aligns with their strategy and all their touchpoints. This way, their visibility grows with their confidence.”

5. Optional: add a proof or hook

You can add some credibility by using your years of experience, the number of companies you’ve already helped, and (if you have helped) a prestigious brand.

Make it snappy and sound like you

You could record while you’re tweaking this. It should sound like you and be authentic. You should aim for 20 seconds for your short version and have a longer version under two minutes.

“I help small business owners who feel their brand looks a bit ‘DIY’ by creating a clear and consistent branding they can actually love and use day to day, so they attract clients who really get them.”

(I think I need to work it a bit more!)
